However, in keeping with my love of health and nutrition I decided to jazz up the standard recipe and give it a little bit of a of makeover. Obviously not the healthiest of options, but it is the holidays after all and small indulgences are a total necessity. If not, it is basically an amazingly delicious sweet n’ salty trail mix covered in white chocolate. You all have probably heard of White Trash Candy before.
Plus it involves mason jars…and we all know those are all the rage right now. Well in deciding what to make for the holiday season this year, I came up with a wonderfully easy gift you can make your friends and family as a token of appreciation for their hospitality! It’s affordable, festive, and serves as a fun project for your recipient to take part in. Preferably something homemade….bonus points if it’s edible. If you are anything like me then you like bringing a little something to thank the host for the invite. With the holiday season coming up soon, we all can anticipate being invited to numerous parties, family gatherings, and get-togethers (smaller than usual this year of course!). Dark chocolate, pretzels, unsweetened dried fruits, and whole grain cereals make the perfect mix of sweet n’ salty flavor while being better for you than the original! This is a holiday snack you can feel good about making AND eating. That’s why storing it in the freezer is just perfect.A healthy twist on a classic holiday candy treat! White Trash Candy gets a healthy makeover in my version of Not-So-Trashy Candy. When ready to use, take it out of the freezer and it’s delicious eaten frozen! But, it will thaw out in just a matter of seconds. You can freeze the mix for up to two months. The FREEZER!! Storing it in the freezer keeps it nice and crispy. Be sure to store in an air-tight (Ziploc) freezer bag in the freezer.NOTE: If you melt the chocolate on too high of a heat or too fast, it will get too hard and you won’t be able to coat the mix. I add a little bit of vegetable oil to the chocolate to keep it smooth and creamy and that is what you want. There are two ways to melt the chocolate, one in a bowl over warm water and another in the microwave in thirty-second intervals. If you have small children around, this is a great time for them to have some fun in the kitchen! Let them add the sprinkles to the mixture. The holiday sprinkles add so much! Don’t forget those.
Be sure to use the salted pretzels (small) You want that salty taste to go along with all the sweet candy!.It’s a deliciously smooth tasting chocolate.
Purchase the best grade of chocolate that you can. The white melting bark tends to taste waxy.

There are a lot of different recipes out there, but in my opinion, I think this recipe is the very best that I have ever tasted. Like for Easter, use the pastel color M&M’s and pastel color sprinkles. M&M’s make candies for most all the seasonal holidays so all you have to do is change the M&M’s and sprinkles to fit the holiday. The good news is that you don’t have to wait for Christmas to enjoy this snack. And you won’t believe how easy it is to make! So what is this irresistible munchie snack? It’s a sweet & salty mix made with chex cereal, salted pretzels, peanuts, and M&M’s chocolate candy-coated with white chocolate. White Chocolate Trash, Chex Christmas Mix, Christmas Crack, Santa Chow or Reindeer Food, whatever you want to call this snack-It’s absolutely DELICIOUS! I can definitely see how some call it “Christmas Crack” because it’s sooooo addicting! I literally couldn’t keep my hands out of the cookie jar!
